A Sad Goodbye to Farmer Palmer’s Deer Experience

Farmer Palmers Announces Changes to Animal Exhibits Due to Gov Restrictions

Big Changes at Farmer Palmers

We have some sad news. Our red deer will soon be leaving the farm after  many wonderful years we face heartfelt and difficult challenge regarding our red deer.

Why Are Farmer Palmers Deer Leaving?

The Government’s department DEFRA and the Zoo Licensing Act 1981, says red deer are wild animals. To keep them we would have to turn the whole farm into a zoo. Unfortunately, in today’s challenging climate of rising hospitality costs and increasing legislative demands this is not viable for us.

While we wholeheartedly support the intent of the regulations, Dorset Council is creating a more unified approach to attractions and must enforce the Zoo Licensing Act relating to deer. We appreciate their help on this matter. Other farm parks in the UK that hold a zoo licence are choosing to adapt and drop their licences.

We Put Our Animals First

Farmer Palmer’s team are working hard to find the deer a safe and happy new home. The will still receive the best care while here but after 26th February 2025 they will no longer be able to meet the public.

What This Means for You

We know many of you love our deer and have seen them grow up. Seeing them up close, feeding them, is important for children. Riding the tractor to visit them has been very special. We have had many comments from customers that are sad to say goodbye.

Farmer Palmer’s Owners, Phillip Palmer and Sandra Palmer-Snellin, comments: “This has been very tough for us and the team. The deer have been part of Farmer Palmer’s for so long we are all going to miss them. We are all deeply grateful for the unwavering support of our community and customers.”

Whilst the deer feeding experience is ending, Farmer Palmers remains committed to inspire and educate about farming and wildlife remains at the heart of everything we do. We will adapt with resilience and determination to innovate and look forward to introducing new experiences, in the year ahead.

Come and Say Goodbye

If you want to see the deer again, for  the first time, please visit us before 25th February 2025 to say goodbye to a cherished chapter in Farmer Palmer’s history. We believe it is  important for children to learn how to be gentle with all animals.

You can still take the tractor ride and feed them before they go. Normal entry prices apply and there is a small additional charge for the ride and the food. Tips on how to hand feed the deer can be found here.

Thank you so very much for loving the deer over the past.

We are open every day from 9.30am. Pre-booking for discounted admission here.
