Share

17 Year Old Dougie Macandrew WINS Tourism Excellence GOLD!

Farmer Palmer’s Customer Ambassador took home the TOP PRIZE for Dorset! Winning the South West Tourism – Customer Service Superstar Award!

Winners at South West Tourism Awards

He beat so many outstanding candidates at the awards held under the last Concorde to ever fly at Aerospace Bristol.

In addition, Dougie recently received a letter of recognition from The House of Commons commending him, and Farmer Palmer’s, on the achievement. Read the Letter from Parliament . Michael Tomlinson MP wrote: “I was impressed by the helpful advice and tips for young people looking for work on your website” in reference to our Blog Post on ‘First Jobs for Teenagers’.

Having won the Dorset Tourism Award in November 2018, Dougie was forwarded against winners from Somerset, Bristol, Bath, Devon and Cornwall. Representing Dorset was such an honour. His personality, passion and his own special style of delivering the Farmer Palmer’s Customer Service Experience shone through. Dougie beat many older, more experienced candidates to the Gold award.

Sandra and Phillip Palmer (Farm Park Directors) said:

“Having joined us in February 2015, aged just 14, he had shone during Farmer Palmer’s positive program to help teenagers get a real feel for the world of work. The program helps young adults learn life skills for their future employment environments.

Farmer Palmer's Wins South West Tourism Award

Congratulations Dougie, you are a shining example of a Dorset Teenager and a role model for our new 2019 employees. Dougie’s enthusiasm, smile and ‘nothing is too much trouble’ attitude is a winner with our customers, both young and old. His respect for his team mates is superb. We are not surprised he won, and we are so very PROUD!”

Opening the event; Robin Barker (Services for Tourism) stated: “I’d like to commend you – the South West’s leading tourism businesses for your vision, investment, hard work and excellence. You have had the courage to put yourselves forward to be judged, have been through what is recognised as England’s toughest judging process, and will all be winners tonight”.

A little bit more about why Dougie was the perfect candidate for this award . . .

In 2018 Dougie came to us (Farm Park Directors and HR Manager) with an idea. This idea was inspired by the customer service he had received on holiday with his family. The idea fitted perfectly with the Farm Park business plan, vision for the future, company ethos and values. The key to this idea was defining and delivering the consistent quality and care which makes up the Farmer Palmer’s Customer Experience. And so, Dougie’s brand new role as ‘Customer Service Ambassador’ was born.

Tink, our ‘Marketing and Social Media Fairy’, entered Dougie for the awards and accompanied him to the Dorset and South West Award Ceremonies.
